long weekend. went down to virginia to visit my friend cj.

on saturday, we packed his drumkit and my guitar into his car and drove to alexandria and played for a few hours in the lower level of a parking garage with wormhole, recording a live version of one of their songs. the location was pretty cool but the echo was awful and there was no air conditioning to speak of. still pretty fun though.

finally saw Fight Club while i was there. damn that was a cool movie.

not a bad weekend at all until sunday night when i got on the bus to come back to new york. first of all, the bus was an hour and a half late. and it was a local bus not an express, so we stopped in every single little town on the way. then, around deleware or something, some people in the back of the bus were being obnoxious and, after several warnings that they would be kicked off the bus if they didn’t keep it down, we pulled over and they were kicked off. unfortunately, kicking someone off a bus isn’t that simple, and the cops need to be there to serve a citation to the offending parties. so we sat parked on the side of the road for a good 45 minutes waiting for the cops to come. all in all, it took nine hours to get from virginia to new york; it only took 5 hours to get down there…

then, because we got in at 2am and the subway station near the bus station is closed up after 1, i had to take a cab back to my place. as i’m getting my guitar out of the trunk, the cab just takes off, apparently unaware that the trunk is wide open and i still haven’t gotten my stuff out. the guitar gets stuck under the lid. my hand is firmly attached to the handle of the guitar case (the phrase “from my cold dead hands” comes to mind). i get dragged a good 20 or 30 feet behind the cab to the next stoplight where i managed to yank it free. a few bruises and scrapes and some really sore muscles in the morning, but at least i still have my guitar.
