I lucked out in that I had to install verizon DSL at my old job (all windows PCs) and I had the foresight to secure the wireless router, so I knew the info. Also, when you do the business DSL, they don't do the whole setupCD thing. You get all the info on a card and a walkthrough. I guess they realize that a business may have unsupported OSs/devices. shortly after that both my mom and my dad got verizon DSL and made me set it up for them (OSX machines), then they recommended to my gramma and I had to go set it up for her. I was able to do those without the use of the setup CD. since then, I've set my dad up with speakeasy (speakeasy.net) who officially supports linux. They also had (at the time) faster speeds than verizon and they don't block outgoing email that isn't going through their servers (you basically have to send everything through your verizon account's smtp server).
