The new iMacs have been announced, complete with flat panel monitor, G4 processor, and a tasty superdrive. Looks cute.

I don't think they'll drop the rest of their desktop line. Otherwise they'd lose the crowd that likes Macs but also likes to expand them with larger monitors, faster graphic cards, etc. I have a feeling that they'll be announcing faster processor speeds sometime in the near future. I can actually see a slight use for moving the monitor around, if only to show other people things on my screen. Then again, I could do that with any sort of flat panel monitor...the CRT's are just way too big at the moment. As far as marketing goes, it's small, flashy, has a superdrive and is under 2k. Not a bad deal for a family wanting a Mac. Can I just say that all I want from the next Macworld is a second mouse button.
yeah, i'd forgotten about the upcoming G5. i don't think they'll ever abandon the one-button mouse; except maybe for high-end workstations designed for some specific application. at least you can get a regular multi-button USB mouse and it will work fine with X.
bwwwaaaaa I wanted the palmy thing.
ah, the iLamp. definately an improvement over the old model. still more expensive than it should be. with the move to decent specs, i wonder if they're dropping the rest of their desktop line. still have to wait and see if they catch fire like the cubes did. the ability to move the screen around easily doesn't impress me that much. they seem to be stressing it in the marketing but i don't see the point. i haven't adjusted my monitor since i got it because i haven't had a need. when i work on the computer, i'm generally sitting in the same place for a long time. why would i want to move my screen all over the place? i also liked the looks of the new 14" iBook. if they could have dropped the price on the baseline iBook down a little farther to below $1000, i think they would really have something.
