daphne from bates. top photo, on the right. not only is she hip, she’s also a rock star now. her band (Avenue D) has gotten written up in the last two issues of Paper magazine.

the article's pretty amusing too.
For the people fueling the trend, the artifice of 80's pop culture seems refreshing at a time when the "keep it real" ethos of hip-hop and nu metal bands like Linkin Park and P.O.D. dominates the mainstream.
i can only hope that the mention of Linkin Park and P.O.D. (or, "the boy bands of metal" as i like to think of them) in the same sentence as "keep it real" was meant sarcastically. unfortunately, i think the author meant it sincerely.
i love daphne but all the ultra-cool williamsburg type kids who infest the clubs that she drags me and lani to (and are apparently the focus of the article) drive me nuts.
